Stratiomyidae |
Soldier Flies. Most members of the family can be recognized by the characteristic venation. The larvae are distinctive in being elongate and flattened. Some are aquatic but many are found in rotting vegetation. The pupa remains enclosed in the last larval skin, a characteristic shared with Xylomyidae. Venation is characteristic. [92 Aust. species] |
